Restaurant Layout Project

Focus statement: The Grill is a restaurant for everyone. I wanted to provide a website that can show potential customers just that. The site is easy to read with modest colors and an easy navigation anyone can use.

The look and feel I chose and the reason why: I wanted to use colors found in a hamburger plus the grill (which is the grey). Since the restaurant is a grill the hamburger theme made the most sense to me when it came to colors. They are also easy on the eyes and not to bold. I chose a two column layout with text on one side and images on the other. I thought it would help with making the page less cluttered and easy to follow.

Our whole life is based on the choices that we make. whether it is a good or bad choice it will always affect us. Choices determine where we go, if we succeed or if we fail. I made the choice to go into web design and this choice is one of the biggest I have made in my lifetime. This career is what I chose to do with myself. So I will make choices to learn as much as I can to better myself. I have made bad decisions which resulted in negative outcomes, but once I had done it I learned from that mistake I would go on to make much better choices that outweighed the bad ones. Another great choice of mine was to finish high school, which I am happy to announce to everyone I meet that I graduated and am finally done! I cant wait to say next that I finished Francis Tuttle and I am ready to move on to get a job. I cannot wait to go on into life and have a family and a great job I enjoy and am happy to wake up to. The idea i want to get across is that choices we make with always impact our lives no matter what.

What I did in class today!

I spent a lot of time looking up designing concepts for web design, and I am no positive I want to be a Web Designer. One of the first things I stumbled upon was the CSS3 animation property.  I love being to make different things move around on the page. I found a ton of tutorials on the site They have so much good information and tutorials I can use. They also make it completely clear for newbies like me to read and comprehend. Googling CSS galleries was also extremely helpful in finding information and inspiration.  Designing is more appealing to me because, I can create sites from my own mind. I get to make them look cool and modern. this website showed some AMAZING designs that I really want to try out during the rest of the year. One of my favorite css3 creations i have done so far is my navigation that is a ribbon with text that hovers when you scroll over it. this is the website I created with my team mates. You can see my navigation that I am very proud of. I also edited the images in Photoshop cs5. Strengthening my skills in Photoshop and designing are at the very top of my list! I cannot wait to learn more and become well versed in web designing.

Communication is always going to be necessary. That is how we in this society live, by communicating to each other our ideas, thoughts, and opinions. Web designing requires much communication because the designer has to be sure that the client is getting what they want and nothing less. Its important to keep in contact to we know what is going on and that we aren’t kept in the dark. Communication happens everywhere all the time. It happens over the phone, computer, day to day activities, and more. We even communicate to our pets. Humans aren’t the only ones to do this. Animals, insects, even machines use it. We also have many forms of communication since not everyone can talk or hear so we have to develop technologies to help those that cannot communicate as easily as other people can. I think we will always have developing technologies to talk to one another. It is essential to life and human development. If we did not have any social interaction with anyone then human life would not prosper and there would be much chaos and discord. When it all comes down to it, communication is key so always try to express yourself clearly where others can understand and respond back.

Staying current

When I saw I had to watch pod casts I didn’t think that id find anything useful. But I am surprised at what I actually found was helpful. I listened to how to act and what to do and wear. I learned that WDD isn’t just a solo thing but team work.

Anger Management:

Anger management is a good skill to have in life. If you didn’t have it you would miss out on a lot in life and be in more trouble.  Having patience and having the ability to think rationally are two good skills anyone should try and improve on. In the web designing industry you MUST have anger management skills or you will end up smashing the monitor into millions of pieces. Problem solving is a must need skill for WDD you have to be able to stay calm and collected and find solutions to your web pages and code.

Here is some ways to cool down and keep your temper in check:

Stop and walk around if you are beginning to feel flustered.

Take big deep breaths and calm down as much as you can.

Do not yell or thrash around that will only raise your blood pressure and male you more angry.

Try to think happy thoughts and not what is bothering you.

Those are my tips to help you with anger. I have done all of these and they really seem to help me out. Personally I get very angry easily if i cant understand something, so I will calm down, breathe, and maybe listen to music to get my mind off being mad.

Activity Sheet 7: Home Page Design

In this blog I was supposed to review websites and post what I thought of  them.

This first Website was used for my five second test with a peer. The website is called Edible Arrangements.  The link is :

My evaluation of this homepage is:

  • To many pictures:At first I was overwhelmed because I couldn’t begin to find what I was seeking.
  • Logo was hard to spot: It is always good to have a logo you can spot and read immediately. It helps the user remember your name and what you do.
  • They did have easy access to the items they had for sell: This greatly helps out the user in what they are trying to find.
  • Favorable color choices: The colors blended nicely and were not to harsh on the eyes.
  • They have certain times you can order: They have a certain time at which you are available to order their product. This has a downside to customers who can only access their site at certain times of the day.
  • There is more random selections then organized selections: It is never good to have random choices to select from. Always try to have organization.
  • They did have a Shop by occasion section: This section makes it extremely easy on the user who knows exactly what they want and for what occasion.
  • They put the Order Now buttons under the pictures: With this button on the bottom of the product picture they wanted to order it makes it more convenient to them to just click and then check out.

The next part of my assignment called for me to find two successful websites with the best homepages.

The first site I chose was iTunes. The link is:

My evaluation of this homepage:

  • At the very beginning of the page it has a download iTunes button: This button simplifies trying to find a download button for users.
  • The navigation buttons are all at the top of the page: Users do not have to guess where the sections are located.
  • It uses nice color tones: It isn’t to bright and flashy.
  • The tabs stay highlighted on which page you are on: This clears any confusion if a user forgets what page they are on.
  • They have the newest iPhone advertised:Potential buyers wouldn’t have to try to find what they want.
My second site I chose was Google.
here is the link:

Very simple site:
I really love that it is not clustered, less is more.
multiple choices at the top: There isn’t a clump of options to choose from. It’s all separated out so the user can look for videos, pictures, or web articles.
Search bar right in the middle: This makes it more convenient to the user.
The site is a little bare: If I could change Google id add in some more color and maybe a border.
The last part of my assignment was to list two websites that have unsuccessful homepages.
My first site I looked at was Visual Arts League.

This site is just plain bad. I am completely confused. I have no idea what this website is about. Up in the top left corner there appears to be two images but I can only make out the one which is the paintbrush moving up and down with a pallet under it. I can’t tell whats under the pallet and the graphic is totally useless and the fact that it is moving only makes it worse by pulling all the attention to the corner. The color choices are terrible, its blue on blue. The text that is supposed to be the navigation menu is extremely small and difficult for me to read. All the text on the page is different sizes. There are images that have no meaning to the site at all. There is also way to much information on the homepage. It has no organization and is completely confusing. The way to fix this site is to just start over completely and choose few pictures, good size of text, and make the site have a clear meaning.

My second site was Burlington UFO and Paranormal Research and Education Center.

This is a link to the site:

First off this site took forever to load because there was so much unnecessary animation. The text was hard to read in some parts because it was small.  There is too many boxes telling me to click on them, I don’t even know what they are for.  There is a random scroll bar in the upper right side of the corner. Way to much information on one page, I don’t even know what to look at first. I cannot find what the site is mainly about.  There is just too much text for someone to actually sit and read, they will take one look at the site and go on to the next.

What I think about WDD.

From this Web Design and Development course I really hope to gain knowledge about how to create websites and have an understanding of how the web really works.  I want to be able to understand codes, scripting, and programing. Designing content for sites is what I find  most appealing to me. I want to be able to make things the way I see them. I would like to study all the skills needed for my profession that  I plan to pursue. To learn all the codes for the internet is a little intimidating, its like trying to learn a new language it will take time and be a little difficult. It seems I will end up forgetting what I learned before I can learn anything else. When I finish school I hope I will be nice and ready for the work force; and im sure Francis Tuttle will  make me successful. This website is very helpful for people wondering about WDD. It tells how much training you will need, what your salary will look like, and all the success involved in WDD. In web designing you will use many programs. In the next link there programs that are all associated with Java.
